🚀 Day Two of #30DaysJobSearchWithMockX
Day 2: Clarity Over Flexibility. This is part of the job search with MockX series #30DaysJobSearchWithMockX
As job seekers, we often assume that being flexible with roles, titles, and domains will speed up the job search. This can be a big mistake. In today’s market, clarity is your edge. The clearer and more specific your job search criteria, the faster you’ll stand out and land the right job.

In yesterday’s post, we focused on defining your job search goals, identifying what you love to do, your must-haves and deal-breakers, strengths, areas for growth, career goals. Today, it’s time to work on the next step: crafting a clear job search statement that outlines the type of role, level, and industry you’re targeting based on those reflections.
This statement is important - it’s what you’ll include on your resume and use when talking to recruiters and hiring managers who ask, “What are you looking for in your next role?” It sounds like a simple question, but it’s easy to get this wrong without doing this work upfront.
Few examples of clear job search statements:
"Looking for a Staff Engineer role in the infrastructure space at B2B SaaS companies, with a strong interest in larger organizations."
"Looking for a Software Engineer role at early-stage AI startups, ideally Series A."
"Looking for a Director of Product role in the consumer space, ideally at late-stage or pre-IPO startups."
A few important things to consider:
Titles, responsibilities, work hours, and compensation can vary significantly depending on the stage of the company - startups, scaleups, late-stage pre-IPO companies, or large organizations. The earlier the stage, the more likely you’re signing up for longer hours and reduced short-term compensation, with the potential for higher upside. Do your research before committing.
It’s also important to strike the right balance. Playing it too safe might land you in a role that’s less challenging than you’re capable of. Going too aggressive can lead to interview rejections. Clarity and realism matter.
Tomorrow, we’ll talk about how to connect and network effectively to gather feedback on your job search goals.
